The problem
Identity systems across Africa are fragmented, often paper-based and hard to verify. Millions of people have no formal identification, which shuts them out of banking, travel and essential services. Borders and institutions struggle to establish trust, and fraud costs governments and businesses heavily every year.
Without an identity layer that works across countries, the economic integration promised by the African Continental Free Trade Area stays out of reach.
What we are building
e-ID Africa is a biometric digital identity authenticator designed to work in every African country. The model is Estonia’s national e-ID, the backbone of one of the most digital societies in the world, applied to a continent of 1.4 billion people.
For individuals: one secure identity that works across borders, with access to finance, travel, healthcare and government services.
For governments and businesses: verifiable identity for census, embassies, elections and public services, less fraud, and a foundation that fintech, mobility and trade services can build on.
Part of a connected stack
e-ID Africa is the identity layer of the Afrocentric portfolio. It is designed to plug directly into Payola for payments and AfriBus for mobility, so a verified identity can pay, travel and trade without starting from zero each time.
Why now
More than 500 million Africans lack official identification today, and governments, telcos, banks and transport systems all need secure, scalable authentication. A continent-wide system is long-term infrastructure with durable value.
Status
We are in initial discussions with government agencies and pan-African organisations. The revenue model combines licensing, per-transaction authentication fees and enterprise integrations. We are raising seed capital to build the biometric authentication infrastructure and to partner with governments, banks, telcos and mobility providers.
